Shadow Puppet Movement Workshop with Jun Terra
CSM room A002, 26 January 2026, 10am–1pm
Hosted by Afterall Research Centre and MRes Art: Exhibition Studies
Join artist Jun Terra for an open, hands-on shadow puppet workshop grounded in the radical legacies of Artists for Democracy (1974–77), the London-based collective formed ‘to offer material and cultural support to liberation movements worldwide’. Drawing on Terra’s Red Shadow Puppet Theatre—a recurrent feature of AFD’s exhibitions and events—the session combines shadow puppetry with movement and dance exercises, creating an informal and welcoming space for making, conversation, and shared reflection. Original members of Artists for Democracy, along with invited guests, will join the workshop to collectively revisit AFD’s history as an artist-led, internationalist experiment shaped by solidarity movements across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and its resonances today. Participants are encouraged to bring a narrative they would like to develop through shadow puppetry. Open to all ages.
