Afterall Film Club: Victor Burgin

09 may 2013
Symposium
Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London, London.

We are pleased to announce the eighth meeting of Afterall Film Club on Thursday 9 May 2013. Victor Burgin will introduce a film of his choice, which will be discussed following its full screening.

Victor Burgin is an artist, writer and influential theorist of contemporary visual culture. He has stated ‘…the most important work that art can attempt is to provide alternatives to the hegemonic popular common sense created by industrialised mass culture and propagated by the media. That is to say, to support the exercise of one’s own intellectual and sensual faculties, without ceding to pressures from outside.’ Burgin is Professor Emeritus of History of Consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz; and Emeritus Millard Chair of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He lives and works in Somerset and Paris.

Afterall Film Club is free and takes place seven times a year at Central Saint Martins. The club has been chaired by Laura Mulvey, Dexter Dalwood, Mark Leckey, John Stezaker, Nina Power, Anne Tallentire and Stuart Brisley.
