We are pleased to announce the fourth meeting of the Afterall Film Club on Thursday 25 October 2012. John Stezaker will introduce a film of his choice, which will be discussed following its full screening.
John Stezaker's elegant and unnerving juxtapositions of appropriated images found in books, magazines and postcards have influenced a generation of artists. He has described himself as 'dedicated to fascination – to image fascination, a fascination for the point at which the image becomes self-enclosed and autonomous. It does so through a series of processes of disjunction. First, obsolescence – in finding the image – then various devices to estrange or ‘abuse it’, in order to bring out that sense of the autonomy of the image. It involves either an inversion – cutting – or a process that cuts it off from its disappearance into the everyday world.' Stezaker was recently awarded the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2012. He lives and works in London.
Afterall Film Club is free and takes place three times a term at Central Saint Martins new building. The first meetings of the club were chaired by Laura Mulvey, Dexter Dalwood and Mark Leckey. The fifth meeting is on Thursday 6 December with Nina Power.
To join the club and book a place email email@example.com. You will be sent a confirmation email with access details.
